Obstructive sleep apnea · Oral device

Keeping the airway open, starting with the tongue.

REVIDAM is developing a Glossal Advancement Device: a lower-dental appliance with a flexible, porous mesh that gently stabilizes the tongue forward and upward to help maintain upper-airway patency during sleep.

01 The problem

A common condition, poorly served.

In obstructive sleep apnea the upper airway repeatedly collapses during sleep, which is linked to hypertension, heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Today's options leave many patients untreated.

80%+

of obstructive sleep apnea cases are estimated to be undiagnosed

Published estimates
40–45%

of patients reported as non-adherent to CPAP therapy

Clinical literature
$2.5B

US sleep apnea device market in 2024, projected ~$4.6B by 2034

Statista
  1. CPAP

Effective, but many patients don't tolerate it or stop using it.

  2. Mandibular advancement

Moves the jaw forward and can change tooth alignment over time.

  3. Tongue-retaining devices

Target the tongue, but limited by bulk, retention and comfort.

02 Our approach

Support the tongue. Leave the jaw alone.

During sleep the tongue can fall back and block the airway. The device is designed to hold it forward while still allowing natural movement such as swallowing, without moving the jaw.

Illustrative cross-section: the tongue has fallen back and blocks the airway
Restricted Tongue falls back and blocks airflow
Illustrative cross-section: the tongue is held forward and air flows freely
Supported Tongue held forward, airway kept open

Illustrative renders of the proposed mechanism. Not clinical data.

Tongue-first

The tongue is a primary contributor to upper-airway collapse. REVIDAM addresses it directly instead of repositioning the jaw.

Gentle, distributed support

A soft, flexible interface is designed to spread contact across the tongue rather than concentrate it at a single point.

Fitted to the patient

A personalized lower-dental platform is intended to give the interface a stable, comfortable foundation through the night.

03 Development

A staged, evidence-first program.
